Nestled in the lush landscapes of Kannur, Aralam Farming Corporation (Kerala) Limited, a fully government-owned company, was established on 10 th , June 2010, under the administrative control of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes Development Department. Spread over 1500 ha. of land, Aralam Farm was originally set up by the Government of India, in the year 1970, with the assistance of the erstwhile Soviet Union, and in due course was transferred to the Government of Kerala on 20 th June 2004. The farmland, once forested, was cleared for cultivating plantation crops between 1970 and 1975. Half of the area has been allocated to landless tribal families, while the remaining 50% is maintained as a farm to support their welfare.
The prime purpose of the farm is to enhance the development and well-being of the tribal communities of the Resettlement Area. The company aims to advance the infrastructure and other facilities, thereby elevating the standard of living of the rehabilitated tribals. The farm also engages in the production and distribution of quality planting materials, plantation/horticulture crops, and commercial production of crops on a large scale, to provide services to ensure the social and economic welfare of the tribal resettled at Aralam. We focus on creating a sustainable and harmonious balance between agricultural revival, ecological conservation, and responsible tourism in the effort to combat climate change, transforming 3500 acres in the Aralam Farm into a model of innovative rural development.
To transform ARALAM FARM CORPORATION into a leading force in agricultural excellence and eco-tourism by revitalizing its operations to achieve significant profitability. Our vision is to restore ARALAM FARM to its former prominence, leveraging sustainable practices and innovative techniques to drive economic growth. By promoting eco-tourism and showcasing the region's natural beauty and cultural heritage, we aim to attract global interest and support. Additionally, we aspire to be a leading producer of organic and authentic products, setting benchmarks in quality and sustainability while creating a thriving, prosperous community and a model of environmental stewardship.
A commercial organization, Aralam Farm has ventured into the realm of innovative agriculture, adapting newer models of farming and agricultural production. All the agricultural activities at the farm are centered around the crux of ‘climate resilient agriculture’ aiming to develop sustainable models that mitigate the impacts of climate change. The farm places significant emphasis on empowering the local tribal population by offering meaningful livelihoods, employment opportunities, and skill development programs like Aralam Band, Women Empowerment projects, etc.
Beyond agriculture, Aralam Farm offers a serene gateway for tourists, owing to its scenic beauty, moderate climate, and geography. Perched in the Tourist Hub of Wayanad, the Farm strives to make the place a popular destination for both eco-tourism and farm tourism, offering affordable prospects for adventure and recreation, which will, in turn, boost its economic development. With trails, observation points, and information centers, visitors get to learn about biodiversity and agriculture. The sustainable management of tourism ensures its positive contribution to the ecological and social fabric of the region.
